Comprehensive Eye Exam for All Ages
A comprehensive eye exam evaluates vision and eye health. It helps detect eye conditions early and assesses overall health.
During a comprehensive exam, our optometrist will assesses patient history, quality of vision, external and internal health of the eyes, ability of the eyes to adjust focus, eye movement, eye coordination, and peripheral vision. In addition, colour vision and depth perception may also be evaluated.
Recommendations for Different Age Groups
Infants (0-2 years) – Initial eye exams are encouraged at 6 months of age. We assess for congenital issues and developmental milestones.
Children (3-18 years) – Recommended exam once a year. Early detection of refractive errors, strabismus, and amblyopia is crucial.
Adults (19-64 years) – Recommended exam every 2 years, or annually for certain medical/systemic conditions (Diabetes, taking high risk medications). We monitor for changes in vision and early signs of eye diseases.
Seniors (65 years and older) – Annual eye exams recommended due to increased risk of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and other eye diseases.
Eye exams involve more than just determining your prescription for eyeglasses. They can help identify children at risk for developing amblyopia (lazy eye) as well as diagnose, manage, and treat a number of ocular diseases in adults and seniors. Using modern equipment (visual field, topography, and OCT) and technology, we provide a thorough examination of your eyes both inside and out.
A comprehensive eye exam is essential for maintaining eye health and vision at all ages and can identify systemic conditions like diabetes and hypertension. If you have concerns or notice changes in vision, schedule an appointment with one of our optometrists.
